bicycling, skating, leaf raking, vacuuming are some types of aerobic activities. Aerobic activities use arm and leg muscles and gives a continous workout to the heart.
Why is aerobic activity important?
Physical inactivity is one major risk factor for developing coronary artery disease that is characterized by deposits of fatty substances, cholesterol, calcium and other inner lining of arteries that supply blood to the heart muscle. It also develops other risk factors like obesity, high blood pressure, etc.
Now remember heart works better when it is strong and heart is a muscle that can be made stronger and more efficient with regular physical activity or exercise. Aerobic activity plays an important role in both primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular diseases. Regular aerobic physical activities can help to control the blood lipid abnormalities, obesity and diabetes. It also helps to reduce blood pressure.
How can aerobic activity help condition your body?
Some aerobic activities improve the flexibility of your body.
Some aerobic activities like brisk walking, jogging, bicycling, dancing increases endurance.
Some activities also build the muscular strength.
Aerobic activities help in controlling the weight of the body.
Regular aerobic activity will increase your fitness level.
Some types of aerobic activities involve using the large muscles in tour arms and legs which helps the heart by making it work more efficiently during the exercise and also at rest. This results to have a stronger heart.
These activities are beneficial when they are been done regularly.
Important point to be remembered is when a person should consult his doctor.
Before starting a vigorous exercise program people should consult their doctor or other health care provider if any of these conditions apply to you:
You have a heart problem or you have had a stroke.
You have a chest pain.
Your doctor has recommended you to take some medicine for heart condition or blood pressure.
If you are middle-aged or older and haven't been physically active and have planned a vigorous exercise program.
You tend to feel extremely breathless after mild exertion.
You tend to fall due to dizziness.
You tend to loose consciousness.
If none of the above are true for you then you can start your regular or gradual aerobic activity. And if you feel any of these activities during the exercise then contact your doctor immediately.
